The Hidden Risks of Hormonal Birth Control for PMS

The Hidden Risks of Hormonal Birth Control for PMS

Now I’m sure I’m not alone in saying PMS freaking sucks! It’s a universal experience that most of us ladies have experienced at some point in our lives. The cramping, nausea, tender breasts, not to mention the random outbursts of tears and rollercoaster of mood swings. It SUCKS! Then you head to your doctor (who is often male, so has NO idea what this is like) only to have them prescribe you hormonal birth control like they’re handing out candy!

The thing with that is hormonal birth control is not always the best thing for us. If you’re anything like me, my body cannot handle any of the options available and it’s been a terrible period of repeated trial and error. Let me tell you a little more about why doctors try prescribing birth control for PMS issues and what the risks are.

Using hormonal birth control to alleviate PMS symptoms is accompanied by a lot of potential drawbacks. While they aim to regulate hormones and prevent ovulation, the associated risks, including blood clots and other serious complications, raise concerns. Critics argue that interfering with the body's natural hormonal balance may have unnecessary and undesirable effects. Additionally, the trial-and-error process involved in finding the right contraceptive option can be frustrating and time-consuming, as individuals may experience varying responses and side effects. This negative perspective emphasizes the potential risks, disruptions to natural hormonal patterns, and the challenges individuals may face when seeking relief from PMS symptoms through hormonal birth control.

Now there is a lot to be said for traditional Eastern medicine when it comes to these pesky PMS symptoms. The traditional way is a gentler approach focussing on herbs that support the body as it goes through the intense rollercoaster of hormonal changes all month long. These are my top 5 traditional herbs that I’ve found to be incredibly powerful in helping me stabilise and diminish my PMS issues.
