Keloid scars are a funny thing that some of us can be prone to developing (myself included). So I wanted to take a little deep dive into them with you.
They are caused by an overgrowth of collagen during the skin’s healing process after an injury, but unlike regular scars, they continue to grow beyond the boundaries of the original wound. Here’s why that happens:
- Excess collagen production – When the skin is healing from trauma (like a cut, acne, piercing, burn, or surgical incision), the body sometimes produces too much collagen, leading to a thick, raised scar.
- Genetic predisposition – Keloids are more common in people with darker skin tones (especially African, Asian, or Latin descent) and often run in families.
- Skin trauma – Even minor skin injuries like bug bites, acne, or scratches can lead to keloids in people who are prone.
- Tension on the wound – If a wound is under a lot of tension or movement during healing, it may increase the chance of keloid formation.
- Delayed healing or infection – Anything that disrupts normal healing (like inflammation or infection) can increase the risk.
Keloids are benign but can be itchy, tender, or cosmetically concerning.
Now, getting rid of keloid scars completely is difficult, especially naturally, because keloids are made of really dense, fibrotic tissue that doesn’t behave like normal skin.
However, there are a few natural remedies that may help soften, flatten, or reduce the appearance of keloids over time. This works particularly well when you use them consistently and early in their development.
This is the strategy we can implement to start to assist our body best.
First up - collagen regulation & scar remodelling
Vitamin C and Zinc are two of the most essential nutrients for healthy wound healing and balanced collagen production. Unlike boosting collagen blindly (which can worsen keloids), this combo supports regulated collagen rebuilding, helping the skin heal without overproducing scar tissue.
- My Anti-Aging Complex contains 500 mg of Vitamin C with hydrolyzed collagen, keratin, and hyaluronic acid to hydrate and strengthen skin tissue from within.
- My Acne Cleanse & Hyperpigmentation Cleanse add antioxidant and anti-fibrotic plant compounds (like Polypodium, Dragon’s Blood, and Willow Bark) to further control collagen growth in a modulated way.
Next, we add in some anti-inflammatory & anti-fibrotic Support
Chronic inflammation is a key trigger for keloid formation. Combining powerful botanicals can be particularly beneficial. Look for compounds like:
- Licorice root, Polypodium, Dragon’s Blood, White Willow Bark, and Burdock Root. They help reduce inflammation and help calm the wound-healing process. All of these are ingredients in my capsules.
- Additionally, Fish oil powder delivers omega-3s that reduce systemic inflammation. This is especially helpful if your keloids tend to get itchy, red, or irritated.
Now we move on to antioxidant protection for our healing skin
Keloid formation is also very very much tied to oxidative stress. The damage caused by unstable molecules during healing.
- The Grapeseed extract, Pomegranate, White Tea, Resveratrol (Knotweed), and CoQ10 in my Perfect Skin Kit offer a powerhouse blend of potent antioxidants that protect your skin cells during the repair phase and reduce pigment changes around scars.
- We can also add to this the Wolfberry and herbal roots that support detox and cellular renewal.
Another important thing to address is our skin barrier, skin elasticity & skin hydration
My Anti-Aging Complex shines here with its blend of hyaluronic acid, collagen peptides, keratin, and biotin. These compounds all help rebuild the skin’s barrier, improve moisture retention, and soften the feel and texture of rigid or raised scars.
Our final angle is to address the gut-skin axis & immune balance
Incorporating the 5-strain probiotic blend is crucial to help support our gut health. Poor gut health has been increasingly linked to inflammatory skin conditions and abnormal scar formation. A healthy gut helps to improve immune regulation, thus helping your body respond more appropriately to wounds or skin trauma.
So by using the 3 products in the Perfect Skin Kit together provides your skin a layered, inside-out approach to support keloid-prone skin and improve scar healing, especially if you're looking to prevent worsening, reduce firmness, or avoid new keloid formation.
Now I am not saying these will erase keloids overnight, but over time, this kind of comprehensive internal approach can help make existing scars flatter, less inflamed, and more comfortable. They help to greatly reduce the likelihood of new keloid development after trauma, breakouts, or procedures.
Hope this info helps!
