Why does our skin thin as we age?

Have you ever noticed that your parents or grandparents have very thin and fragile skin? Perhaps it has a really crepey look or maybe they even get a lot of abrasions and little cuts? I found myself pondering this a while back & decided to find the answer as to why this happens and how to maintain my skin’s structure so it stays strong, thick, plump & supported as I age.

So why does this thinning of the skin occur?

…Well, as we age, there are a few factors that contribute to our skin becoming thinner:

1. Decreased collagen production:

Collagen is a protein responsible for maintaining the strength and elasticity of the skin. As we age, the production of collagen decreases, leading to a loss of structural support and thinning of the skin.

2. Reduced elastin levels:

Elastin is another protein that helps maintain skin elasticity. Similar to collagen, elastin production declines with age, resulting in skin that is less firm and more prone to thinning.

3. Decline in skin cell turnover:

The turnover of skin cells slows down as we age. This means that the outer layer of the skin (epidermis) takes longer to shed and renew, resulting in a thinner, more fragile outer layer.

4. Exposure to environmental factors:

Over time, cumulative exposure to environmental factors such as sunlight, pollution, and toxins can damage the skin's structure and accelerate the aging process, including thinning of the skin.

So the overall combination of these factors contributes to the gradual thinning of our skin as we age. This thinning makes the skin more susceptible to damage, wrinkles, and other signs of aging.

…So my next question was, how do I slow this thinning of the skin?

This one quite stumped me as the traditional treatments for signs of aging are things like Botox, but that is actually just for wrinkles. This concern of thin skin is a whole different ball game. No amount of serums or creams would really solve this either! So I started delving into how to address this from within because, in my eyes, this has to be a lifestyle-type solution. But as a busy gal, I need solutions that are also convenient for me.

So this led me down the path of developing the Anti-Aging Complex. Its unique blend of ingredients helps the skin maintain its structure & thickness as we age.

Let's break down how each ingredient helps:

Hydrolyzed Collagen

Collagen is a protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin. Supplementing with collagen helps replenish collagen levels in the skin, improving its strength and resilience.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is essential for collagen synthesis. It plays a crucial role in the formation of collagen fibres, helping to maintain skin structure and elasticity. Additionally, vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that protects the skin from oxidative stress and damage caused by free radicals.

Biotin

Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is involved in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and amino acids, which are essential for healthy skin. Biotin deficiency can lead to dry, scaly skin, so supplementing with biotin may help maintain skin health and moisture.

Lustriva

This clinically tested ingredient has been shown to bring a whole host of benefits, from promoting hair growth and thickness, reducing facial wrinkles, improving skin texture, elasticity and appearance, reducing skin damage from UV exposure, and restoring collagen levels in the skin.

Organic Amla Fruit Powder

Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry, is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which help protect the skin from damage and support collagen production.

Grape Seed Extract

Grape seed extract contains antioxidants known as proanthocyanidins, which help protect the skin from UV damage and promote collagen synthesis.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps maintain hydration and plumpness. Supplementing with hyaluronic acid helps to retain moisture in the skin, improving its texture and appearance.

Probiotics

Probiotics support gut health, which is linked to skin health. A healthy gut microbiome can help reduce inflammation and support the absorption of nutrients necessary for skin health.

Hydrolyzed Keratin Powder

Keratin is a protein found in the skin, hair, and nails. Supplementing with hydrolyzed keratin is key to helping strengthen the skin barrier and improve its overall structure and resilience.

The formula is a unique and incredibly effective combination of collagen, vitamins, antioxidants, and other key nutrients to support your skin health, maintain structure, and promote a youthful appearance. It provides your body with essential building blocks for collagen synthesis, protecting against oxidative damage, and supporting skin hydration and integrity, to help combat the thinning of the skin as we age.
